Let's be 'Clear' about our waste

Get ready to make a big change in your household waste disposal routine!

Starting January 1, 2024, the Eastern Regional Service Board (the fine folks who arrange for your trash to be taken away) is switching to clear bags for all collected garbage. This means you'll need to put your regular household waste in see-through bags for collection. But don't worry, you'll still have the option to use a privacy bag each week.

Using clear bags has huge benefits for the environment and your community.

  • clear bags encourage proper sorting of materials, which means that recyclable items will stay out of the garbage

  • sorting items will reduce the amount of waste going to landfill and lower the cost paid to dispose of materials collected. That reduced cost will help keep collection fees low

  • Clear bags also encourage the proper diversion of electronics and hazardous waste material, such as batteries, from being buried in landfill

  • Additionally, using clear bags protects the collectors, allowing them to see and avoid sharp or dangerous objects in the bag.

Privacy Bags

Put waste items you would like to keep private and for others not to see inside any colour opaque (non-see-through) waste bag.

What makes a privacy bag?
